Terms & Conditions
In short
This summary is here to be readable. The full terms below are what govern.
- Chika is entertainment. It is not a substitute for professional, medical, legal, or financial advice.
- Crowns are the in-app currency. You buy them through the App Store or Google Play, and we never handle your payment details. You spend them to send a message, send a gift or a sticker, or receive a generated photo. They have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money.
- Refunds are Apple's and Google's to give, under their own policies. If they refund a purchase we take the same Crowns back, which can leave your balance below zero, and we will never charge you money to clear it.
- You must be 18 or older to use Chika. An account whose date of birth is under that is refused access.
- Characters are fictional adults. Directing one to behave as a minor, or seeking sexual content involving minors, can get the account deleted without warning.
- Public Characters are visible to other Players. If you make a Character Public, you let Chika show it to them. No real people's faces, no minors, no one else's characters.
- We look at reports and can Hide a Character, with no appeal. Enough Hidden Characters locks you out of making new ones.
- Intimate-image reports about a real person are looked at within 48 hours.
- Features can change. We may update, limit, or discontinue parts of the platform.
Welcome to Chika! These Terms of Service ("Terms") explain how our platform works and the rules that apply when you use it. By accessing or using Chika, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully.
1. Key Definitions
Platform – The Chika website, app, and related services.
Player – An individual who registers and uses Chika.
Crown – The in-app currency of Chika. Crowns are bought through the App Store or Google Play in a Top-up, and are spent when you send a message, send a gift or a sticker, or receive a generated photo. New accounts start with a one-time amount.
2. How Chika Works
Chika is an AI-powered conversational platform that allows Players to:
- Chat with AI Characters written and published by our team.
- Make your own Characters, keep them Private, or make them Public so other Players can find and chat with them.
Use Crowns to enhance and extend conversations.
Important: Chika is an entertainment and conversational platform. It is not a substitute for professional, medical, legal, or financial advice. All interactions are for personal use only and at your own discretion.
3. Crowns & Payments
Crowns are the sole recognized currency within Chika.
You can:
- Buy Crowns through the App Store or Google Play. Chika never handles your payment details.
Spend them to:
- Send a message to a Character.
- Send a gift or a sticker.
- Receive a generated photo, which we always ask you to confirm first.
- Crowns have no cash value outside the platform and cannot be exchanged for money.
Crowns are consumable, and are added to your balance as soon as a Top-up completes. Refunds are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own policies, so request one there, not from us.
If a purchase is refunded
When the store refunds a purchase, we remove the same number of Crowns from your balance. We do this whether or not you have already spent them, because the alternative would let the same Crowns be bought, used, and refunded again and again.
If you have already spent some of them, this can leave your balance below zero. While it is below zero you cannot send messages, send gifts, or receive photos. Your next Top-up clears the shortfall first, and only what is left over is added to your balance.
We will never charge you money to clear a negative balance, and we will not pursue you for it. It simply sits on the account until a Top-up clears it, or until you delete the account.
4. Player Responsibilities
By using Chika, you agree to:
- Be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into agreements.
- Use Chika for lawful purposes only.
- Not engage in harassment, abuse, fraud, hacking, or other malicious activity.
- Respect intellectual property and privacy of others.
5. Acceptable Use
Chika Characters are fictional adults. When you talk to them, you agree not to:
- Direct a Character to behave as a minor, or to produce sexual content involving minors in any form. This is the one rule with no warning: we may delete the account.
- Seek sexually explicit content. Characters are written to keep conversations non-explicit, and attempts to push past that may end your access.
- Direct a Character to impersonate a real person, living or dead.
- Seek content that promotes self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders, or that encourages violence against anyone.
- Seek instructions for illegal activity, or use Chika to plan, carry out, or conceal one.
- Attempt to extract a Character's underlying instructions, or to bypass the limits described here.
- Share, publish, or present anything a Character generates as if a real person had said or done it.
A Character's reply is generated by an AI model. It is fiction, it can be wrong, and it is not the view of Chika or anyone who works here.
If a Character says something that breaks these rules, report it. Press and hold the message, or tap the control beside it, then choose a reason. The report is saved on our servers together with a copy of the message.
Where these rules are broken we may delete the account.
6. Platform Rights
Chika may update, limit, or discontinue features at any time.
We may monitor service-connected activity for abuse prevention, fraud detection, and compliance.
Your conversations are processed in the cloud. To generate a Character's reply, your message and recent messages in that conversation are sent to our infrastructure and to Google, the AI provider Chika uses, as described in our Privacy Policy under "Cloud AI Replies", which also lists exactly what is sent and what is not. Other service-connected actions such as sign-in, Character refreshes, and purchases also involve our infrastructure.
7. Third-Party Services
Chika may integrate with third-party services (e.g., for sign-up or payments).
By using these, you grant Chika permission to access necessary account data.
Your relationship with those services is governed by their terms, not ours.
8. Intellectual Property
All Chika content, software, and branding are owned by us. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without written consent.
9. Disclaimers
Chika is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, accuracy of responses, or outcomes of interactions.
Chika is not liable for damages including lost data, service interruptions, or disputes arising from use.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Chika harmless from claims, damages, or liabilities resulting from your use of the platform or breach of these Terms.
11. Termination
You may stop using Chika at any time, and you can delete your account at any time. Open Profile and tap Settings, then tap Delete account and confirm, though on the version currently in the stores Delete account is at the foot of Profile instead. We may delete accounts that violate these Terms.
12. Characters You Make and Upload
If you make a Character, or upload a picture to make one, these rules apply to it and to everything you upload:
- No real people in anything Public. Nothing you make Public may show, depict, or be based on a real person, living or dead. A Character whose picture is a photo of a real face stays Private. A drawing made from your own photo may be Public.
- No minors. Nothing you make or upload may show or depict a minor.
- No one else's characters. Do not make or upload a Character that belongs to someone else.
- Your rights. You confirm that you have the rights to everything you upload, and that using it in Chika does not break anyone else's.
Chika may review a Character or an upload, and may remove it, including one you have made Public.
13. Public Characters
Private and Public. A Character you make is Private: only you can chat with it. You can switch it to Public and back at any time.
Your grant to us. When you make a Character Public you give Chika a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display it to other Players, and to let them chat with it, for as long as it is Public. The licence covers its name, picture, tagline, description and Style. It does not give anyone your account or your name: other Players do not see who made a Character.
Checks when you switch to Public. Before a Character goes Public, and again when you edit it while it is Public, we check it automatically, as the Privacy Policy describes. If a check fails, the Character stays Private, or your edit is not applied, and you are told the reason category.
Other Players keep their chats. If you make a Character Private again, delete it, or delete your account, Players already chatting with it keep their conversation, which they can still read. If you delete your account, the Public Characters you made stay for them without your account on them. See the Privacy Policy.
Age. Only a Player who is at least 18 and has passed our age check can see Public Characters.
14. Reports, Hiding and Blocking
Reporting. Any Player can report a Character from its page or from a chat, and can report by email through the contact page. Reports on Characters are read by a person. Nothing is removed automatically because it was reported.
Intimate images of real people. If a Character shows an intimate image of you, report it as an intimate image. We commit to deal with those reports within 48 hours of receiving them. This is a commitment about intimate-image reports only.
Hide. If we find that a Character breaks these Terms, we Hide it. A Hidden Character is closed to other Players: they can still read their chat but cannot send to it, and its picture is replaced by a placeholder. We tell you the reason category. There is no appeal. Where we have made a mistake we can restore a Character, and we will if we find it.
The creation lock. Each Hidden Character counts as a strike against its maker. One strike for an intimate image of a real person or for a minor, or three strikes for any other reason, locks your account out of making new Characters. The lock can be lifted only by us.
Blocking. A Player can choose not to see a Character, or any Characters from the same maker, again. The maker is not told and is not named to the Player.
15. Other Legal Terms
Refunds – Purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play, so refunds follow their policies. See section 3.
Severability – If any part of these Terms is invalid, the rest remain effective.
Entire Agreement – These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Chika.
Force Majeure – We are not responsible for failures caused by events outside our control (e.g., outages, natural disasters).
Updates – We may revise these Terms. Continued use means acceptance. Major changes will be notified via the platform or email.
Version history
Version 2.4, 3 October 2026. Player-made Characters can now be Public, so the Terms say what that means. Section 12 now says a face photo stays Private. New section 13, Public Characters: Private and Public, the grant you give Chika to display a Public Character, the automated checks, and that other Players keep their chats. New section 14, Reports, Hiding and Blocking: how to report, the 48-hour commitment for intimate-image reports, Hide with no appeal, the creation lock (one strike for an intimate image or a minor, three for anything else) and blocking. "Other Legal Terms" is now section 15. The minimum age is now 18, raised from 16 to match the app; the age line still reads the minimum age.
Version 2.3, 30 September 2026. Added section 12, Characters You Make and Upload: no real people in anything Public, no minors, no one else's characters, that you have the rights to what you upload, and that Chika may review and remove. "Other Legal Terms" is now section 13.
Version 2.2, 21 September 2026. Section 11 said you "can delete your account from your profile at any time". That happened to be true of the build then shipping and said nothing a Player could follow, so it now states the path itself, in the words the app uses, the same sentence the Privacy Policy and the delete-account page state.
Section 6 named no AI provider. It now names Google and points at the Privacy Policy section that lists what is sent to produce a reply and what is not.
The vocabulary matches the app. "Crown Credits" is retired as a defined term: the unit is a Crown, buying them is a Top-up, and section 3 is renamed accordingly. "User" is retired too, and the word used throughout, including the section heading, is Player. Character takes its capital. None of this changes what you may do or what you are charged.
Version 2.1, 7 September 2026. Removed enforcement claims that described nothing that exists: a moderation team that receives reports, suspending or limiting an account, reporting to authorities, and "serious cases are actioned immediately". A report is saved on our servers with a copy of the message; the one action we take on an account over these rules is to delete it, and the Terms now say only that. Separately, an account whose date of birth is under the minimum age is refused access.
Version 2.0, 31 August 2026. Brought back into line with the terms shipping inside the app, which were corrected in three changes the web copy never received. Removed claims that were not true of the product: creating private or shareable companions (characters are written and published by us), earning bonus Crowns through referrals (there is no referral system), buying Crowns through Chika's own payment processors (purchases are App Store and Google Play only, and we never see your payment details), and spending them on "premium responses" (they are spent on a message, a gift or sticker, or a generated photo). Removed "all Crown Credit purchases are final and non-refundable" and the "No Refunds" clause: both were false, because Apple and Google refund under their own policies whatever these terms say. Section 3 now says so and explains what happens to your Crowns afterwards, including a balance that can sit below zero and the promise that we will never charge you money to clear it. Added section 5, Acceptable Use, which sets out what you agree not to ask a character for and how to report a reply that breaks those rules. Dropped "outstanding dues remain payable after termination", which described nothing that exists. The minimum age is now 16, lowered from 18 to sit at the GDPR age of digital consent and on a real store rating tier.
Version 1.0, 13 August 2026. First publication on the web of the terms already shipping inside the Chika app. No changes to the terms themselves.
